Geotechnical studies

For large-scale civil engineering projects it is essential that the accurate depth of the hard bedrock be known. GEOPHYSICAL offers high quality expertise in this field. One of the best examples is the feasibility study carried out for a water dam site, on the river Tontouta (for EEC the New Caledonian Electrical Company ).

As part of it's program for the development of renewable energy (in particular hydro-electricity), EEC solicited a geophysical study to enable them to choose the ideal site (based on geological and geometrical criteria) for the construction of their dam .

The construction of such hydro-electrical infrastructures require solid foundations reaching 5 meters depth in hard bedrock. A geophysical 2D-ERT survey was performed by GEOPHYSICAL on the selected targets to determine the depth of the bedrock top, thicknesses and the type of cover-deposits.

GEOPHYSICAL established ideal sites for fixing foundations : drill holes can now be carried out at these locations to more accurately characterise the lithology covering the peridotite and locate it's exact depth.
